Welded wire mesh construction insures that each point of contact in the grid pattern is welded to form a rigid connection, making this type of gabion material important in achieving a flat, sharp appearance. The added stiffness provided by welded wire mesh and corner stiffeners also make rock filling less cumbersome
The basic advantage of HESLY-WELD welded gabions over twisted wire gabions is they assemble faster
resulting in substantial labor savings.
The philosophy of the Welded gabion is similar to our woven units; our welded gabion units consist of panels of quality welded wire mesh, secured together to form a gabion unit, which is filled on site with gabion stone to form the appropriate structure.
Architectural and landscaping are popular uses for these units, as they have a formal appearance when filled correctly with quality stone. Our welded mesh gabion units have been successfully used within free standing walls, cladding and other features within the built environment.
As with all gabion solutions, they have to be designed to meet the requirements of the project.
Welded mesh gabion units should not be used in watercourses due to the risk of differential settlement.
PRE-ASSEMBLED IN FACTORY
HESLY Gabions come pre-assembled in the factory with hinged panels folded flat for shipping and ease of unloading. They are easily expanded and ready to fill with rocks
Once expanded and place in position, HESLY Gabions are securely interconnected with corkscrew type spiral binders at each vertical junction. Time studies have shown that welded wire baskets install at a rate that reduces labor by at least 40% compared to twisted wire gabions
BETTER SHAPE CONTROL
HESLY-WELD Gabions provide shape control superior to twisted or woven wire fabric. Internal diaphragms and preformed corner stiffeners brace adjacent panels and add stiffness for more shape control.
HESLY-WELD Gabions and mattresses meet ASTM A974-97 requirements with regard to the materials of construction and method of manufacture.
ASTM A974-97 also establishes minimum requirements for pre-assembly of the baskets and mattresses for shipping. The steel wire mesh used in constructing a HESLY-WELD gabion can be plain steel, stainless steel, galvanized or galvanized and PVC coated. The PVC coated gabions are typically used in applications where greater durability or an environmentally blended appearance is desired.
